Promotion of Bangladesh Internet Week begins officially

The Bangladesh Internet Week has started its promotional activities through Street Painting in the capital on Wednesday midnight. The local technology brands got the special privilege of painting the road. The lighting show, Fire spinning show, Selfie with local brand icons, night-long music concert kept the Manik Miah Avenue awaken through the night. The street-painting campaign is being organized as a part of the upcoming Bangladesh Internet Week to be held from September 5 to 11 across the 487 Upazilas in the country.
Thousands of technology lovers joined the Street Painting program in front of National Parliament in love of technology on 11.59 PM in midnight of Wednesday. The participants cheered the open air concert breaking the silence of Dhaka in the midnight. The artists brought the logos come alive through spectacular painting.
Speaker of National Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury inaugurated the 'Street Painting’ event marking the upcoming Internet Week, in front of Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) on Wednesday. Sate Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP was guest of special guest at the event. BASIS President Shameem Ahsan, ICT Division Secretary Shyam Sundar Shikdar, BASIS Senior Vice President & Convener of Bangladesh Internet Week 2015 Russell T. Ahmed and Grameenphone Chief Marketing Officer Yasir Azman spoke at the event among others.
The Deputy Secretary (E-Service Delivery) of ICT Division Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, BASIS Vice President M. Rashidul Hasan, Secretary General Uttam Kumar Paul, Joint Secretary General Mustafizur Rahman Sohel, Treasurer Shah Imraul Kaeesh, Directors Ashraf Abir, Ariful Hasan, BASIS Executive Director Sami Ahmed, representatives from Grameenphone including Tonmoy Bashar and Mahbubul Alam were also present.
The speaker of the Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin said, “This event of street painting is really appreciated. This will create a vast scope of branding as well as awareness among the mass about the Bangladeshi Internet products. I hope that Bangladesh Internet Week will help achieving the target to reach one crore new internet users by one year.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, “Anything can be achieved through Prive Public Partnership along with the involvement of business organizations. We have aimed to achieve the target one billion dollar export target by 2018 with the help of Internet. Bangladesh Internet Week will accelerate the process to achieve this goal and also pave the way to create a Digital Bangladesh.
BASIS President Shameem Ahsan said, “We are determined to ensure internet access to every part of the country. That is why we are organizing Bangladesh Internet Week in such a festive manner. Through this event we can bring the products of BASIS member companies, as well as other providers, to the common people at the grassroots level. This way the people can become aware and excited about the prospects of the internet and the different software companies will have a platform to showcase their products and services.
Grameenphone Chief Marketing Officer, Yasir Azman said “The internet is an integral part of the lives of Bangladeshi citizens now. One of the main goals of BASIS “One Bangladesh” vision, as well as Grameenphone’s “Internet for all” is to create 5 Crore internet users throughout the country and Bangladesh Internet week will be the driving force to fulfill this goal. I believe that this jointly organized event will be massively successful and exuberant.
With a vision to increase enrolment in internet as well as to promote Internet based commodities and services, Bangladesh Internet Week 2015 will be kicked off on September 5 across the country and will continue to September 11. Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), Information and Communication Technology Division and Grameenphone jointly organised the internet literacy carnival. Along with three major expos taking place in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Sylhet, this unprecedented internet festival will also be held in 487 upazilas throughout Bangladesh. The country’s foremost e-commerce companies, mobile apps development companies, web portals, device manufacturers as well as all internet products and services companies will be taking part. There will be numerous events throughout Bangladesh Internet Week.
It’s should be mentioned, there will be three Internet Expo, Bangladesh Internet Week mega version, held at Banani field in the capital from September 5 to 7, Nankin Bazar in Rajshahi on September 9 and City Indoor Stadium in Sylhet on September 11. Besides, the festival will be celebrated at 487 Upazillas from September 5 to 11 in participation with all Union Digital Centres.
